Sandy Pike and Home Cuisine

Sandy Pike has owned Home Cuisine for over 17 years in Louisville, KY. Home Cuisine was one of, if not the very first, fresh food delivery services directed at customers with dietary restrictions in Louisville. Sandy recognized the need for this specific service before it was trendy to eat gluten-free or paleo. Her business has grown and evolved over the years, but when COVID-19 hit, things looked uncertain. She applied for a grant from the city of Louisville for small business relief funds, which is when she was connected to business coach, Anne Shadle, for assistance with grant reporting documentation. Sandy and Anne are long-time colleagues as Sandy originally used Anne’s business partner’s restaurant are her commissary kitchen in the early 2000’s. Anne was able to help Sandy get the reports approved quickly so she could spend her time running and growing her business. While working on the reports together, Anne noticed an OnDeck loan payment with a very high-interest rate. Together, Anne and Sandy applied for an SBA 7(a) loan from Community Trust to refinance this and bring the monthly payments down to a fraction of what they had been. Now, Sandy is focusing her energy on adding a new revenue stream, Silver Meals, a healthy food delivery service for the elderly. Sandy has said that "Working with Anne and the SBDC has been so helpful. Anne has provided not only strategy but also continual guidance as we've gone through these various financing processes. I am so grateful to have had this support along the way, particularly this past year of uncertainty."
